Description
Blueberry Brie Jalapeño Poppers are a fun sweet-and-savory appetizer combining creamy Brie, smooth cream cheese, fresh blueberries, honey, and tender roasted jalapeños for a delicious balance of creamy, fruity, spicy, and savoury flavours.
Ingredients
6 large jalapeños, halved and seeds removed (90 g)
100 g Brie cheese, cut into small cubes (3.5 oz)
1/4 cup fresh blueberries (40 g)
2 tablespoons cream cheese (30 g)
1 tablespoon honey (15 ml / 20 g)
1/4 teaspoon black pepper (0.5 g)
Optional: fresh thyme leaves for garnish (2 g)
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to make cleanup easier and prevent the stuffed jalapeños from sticking.
2. Carefully cut the jalapeños in half lengthwise. Use a small spoon to remove the seeds and inner membranes. For a milder appetizer, remove as much of the inner white membrane as possible.
3. In a small bowl, combine the cubed Brie, cream cheese, honey, and black pepper. Mix until the ingredients are well combined and form a creamy filling.
4. Spoon the cheese mixture evenly into each jalapeño half. Avoid overfilling them because the cheese will become soft and bubbly as it bakes.
5. Place a few fresh blueberries on top of the cheese filling in each jalapeño. Press them gently into the filling so they stay in place while baking.
6. Place the stuffed jalapeño halves on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer. Leave a little space between them so they roast evenly.
7. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the jalapeños are tender and the cheese is melted, warm, and bubbling. Start checking around the 12-minute mark because jalapeños vary in size.
8. Remove the poppers from the oven and let them cool for a minute or two. If desired, sprinkle with fresh thyme leaves for a fragrant herbal finish.
9. Serve warm while the Brie is soft and creamy and the blueberries are juicy. Arrange on a serving platter for an easy appetizer.
Notes
Choose large jalapeños because they are easier to fill and provide more room for the creamy cheese mixture.
Remove the seeds and inner membranes if you prefer a milder appetizer.
Don’t overfill the jalapeños. Leave a little room around the filling so melted cheese doesn’t spill excessively onto the baking sheet.
Use fresh blueberries because they hold their shape well and provide juicy bursts of flavour as they warm.
Use ripe Brie for a soft, flavourful filling that melts beautifully in the oven.
Watch the baking time carefully. Start checking around the 12-minute mark because jalapeños can vary in size.
Serve the poppers warm shortly after baking while the cheese is soft and melted.
Camembert, goat cheese, or another mild cream cheese-based filling can be substituted for Brie.
Fresh blueberries are recommended, but frozen blueberries can be used directly from frozen. They may release slightly more moisture during baking.
The poppers can be prepared and filled several hours ahead. Cover and refrigerate them until ready to bake, adding a few extra minutes to the baking time if baking directly from the refrigerator.
Reduce or omit the honey for a less sweet, more savoury flavour.
Store leftover poppers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheat gently in the oven until warmed through.
Serve with crackers, grapes, apples, pears, nuts, toasted baguette slices, roasted vegetables, stuffed mushrooms, or a fresh green salad.
