Description
Creamy Homemade Limoncello is a smooth Italian-inspired lemon liqueur made with fresh lemon zest, vodka, milk and cream. Rich, velvety and bursting with bright citrus flavor, it’s perfect served ice cold after dinner or packaged as a thoughtful homemade gift.
Ingredients
• 10 large organic lemons, washed
• 2 cups (475 ml) vodka (40–50% ABV)
• 2 cups whole milk
• 1 cup heavy cream
• 2 cups granulated sugar
• 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
1. Using a vegetable peeler, remove only the yellow zest from the lemons, avoiding the bitter white pith.
2. Place the zest into a large glass jar and pour the vodka over it.
3. Seal the jar and let it infuse in a cool, dark place for 7 to 10 days, shaking gently once a day.
4. In a saucepan, combine the milk, heavy cream and sugar over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely without boiling.
5. Remove from the heat and allow the mixture to cool completely. Stir in the vanilla extract if using.
6. Strain the lemon-infused vodka through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth, discarding the zest.
7. Slowly whisk the cooled cream mixture into the infused vodka until smooth and fully combined.
8. Pour into sterilized glass bottles and seal tightly.
9. Refrigerate for at least 24 hours before serving.
10. Shake well before each use and serve well chilled.
Notes
• Only remove the yellow zest for the brightest lemon flavor.
• Allow the cream mixture to cool completely before mixing with the vodka.
• Shake the infusion gently each day during steeping.
• Store refrigerated and shake before serving.
• Makes a wonderful homemade holiday or hostess gift.
