Description

Feather Dumplings for Chicken and Dumplings are light, fluffy homemade dumplings made with simple pantry ingredients and cooked directly in simmering chicken broth for the ultimate Southern comfort food.

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tbsp baking powder

1 tsp salt

2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

3/4 cup whole milk

1 large egg, lightly beaten

2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

1. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt and black pepper in a large bowl.

2. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, egg and melted butter.

3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Fold in the parsley if using.

4. Bring the chicken broth or soup to a gentle simmer.

5. Drop spoonfuls of dough into the simmering broth using a tablespoon or cookie scoop.

6. Cover the pot tightly and cook for 15 minutes without lifting the lid.

7. The dumplings should be fluffy and fully cooked.

8. Gently stir into the chicken mixture and serve immediately.

Notes

Do not overmix the dough.

Never lift the lid while the dumplings cook.

Maintain a gentle simmer instead of a rolling boil.

Fresh parsley is optional but adds wonderful flavor.

Store leftovers refrigerated for up to 3 days.
