Description
Grandma’s Southern Sweet Potato Cobbler is a comforting Southern dessert featuring a creamy cinnamon-spiced sweet potato filling baked in a flaky buttery crust. Perfect for holidays, Thanksgiving, family gatherings and cozy weekends.
Ingredients
2 cups mashed sweet potatoes (about 2 large sweet potatoes)
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp salt
1 pre-made pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
Optional:
Whipped cream
Vanilla ice cream
Chopped pecans
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
2. Boil or roast the sweet potatoes until tender, then mash until completely smooth.
3. In a large bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes, granulated sugar, brown sugar, milk, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Mix until smooth and creamy.
4. Roll out the pie crust and fit it into the prepared baking dish.
5. Pour the sweet potato filling into the crust and spread evenly.
6. If desired, arrange strips of a second pie crust over the filling to create a lattice topping.
7. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes until the filling is set and the crust is golden brown.
8. Allow the cobbler to cool for 15 minutes before serving. Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream if desired.
Notes
Roasting the sweet potatoes creates deeper, richer flavor.
Mash the sweet potatoes until completely smooth for the creamiest filling.
Allow the cobbler to cool slightly before slicing so the filling sets properly.
Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Delicious served warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
