Sweet and Spicy Pepper Jelly Cheeseball

Sweet and Spicy Pepper Jelly Cheeseball

  • Author: vitalityrecipes
  • Total Time: 2 hours 15 minutes

Description

Sweet and Spicy Pepper Jelly Cheeseball is an easy, creamy appetizer made with cream cheese, sharp cheddar, Monterey Jack, fresh herbs, and a sweet-and-spicy pepper jelly topping, finished with crunchy nuts for extra texture.

Ingredients

8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened

1 cup (100 g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1/2 cup (55 g) shredded Monterey Jack cheese

2 tbsp sour cream

2 tbsp finely chopped green onions

1 tbsp finely chopped fresh parsley

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

1/3 cup (100 g) sweet and spicy pepper jelly

2 tbsp finely chopped green onions

2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley

1/4 cup (30 g) finely chopped pecans or walnuts, optional

Instructions

1. Remove the cream cheese from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 20–30 minutes. Softened cream cheese will blend much more easily with the shredded cheeses and other ingredients.

2. In a large mixing bowl, add the softened cream cheese, shredded sharp cheddar, Monterey Jack cheese, sour cream, chopped green onions, parsley, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

3. Using a hand mixer or sturdy spatula, mix everything together until smooth, creamy, and well combined. Make sure the shredded cheeses and herbs are evenly distributed throughout the mixture.

4. Spoon the cheese mixture onto a large sheet of plastic wrap. Gather the plastic wrap around the mixture and gently shape it into a compact, round ball. Press firmly enough to help the cheeseball hold its shape without making it overly dense.

5. Wrap the cheeseball securely and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until firm. For the best flavour and texture, you can prepare it the day before and let it chill overnight.

6. Unwrap the chilled cheeseball and place it on a serving plate or shallow platter. Spoon the sweet and spicy pepper jelly over the top, letting some of it gently flow down the sides of the cheeseball.

7. Sprinkle the top with finely chopped green onions and fresh parsley. If desired, add finely chopped pecans or walnuts for a delicious crunchy contrast to the creamy cheese.

8. Let the cheeseball sit at room temperature for about 10–15 minutes before serving. Serve with crackers, toasted baguette slices, pretzels, or fresh vegetables.

Notes

Soften the cream cheese at room temperature before mixing so the cheese mixture becomes smooth and easy to combine.

Use freshly shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack for the best texture.

Chill the cheeseball for at least 2 hours so it becomes firm enough to hold its shape.

For a convenient make-ahead appetizer, prepare and shape the cheeseball up to a day in advance and keep it tightly wrapped in the refrigerator.

Add the pepper jelly and garnishes shortly before serving to keep the topping attractive and prevent the surface from becoming overly soft.

Choose a mild or hotter pepper jelly depending on your preferred level of spice.

Toasting the pecans or walnuts briefly before chopping can add extra flavour and crunch.

Pecans or walnuts can be omitted completely if you prefer a nut-free cheeseball.

Colby, mozzarella, pepper Jack, or mild smoked cheddar can be substituted for some of the cheeses while keeping cream cheese as the base.

Serve with sturdy crackers, toasted baguette slices, pretzels, celery, cucumber, carrots, or bell pepper.

For a larger appetizer spread, pair the cheeseball with olives, sliced fruit, cured meats, additional cheeses, and toasted nuts.

Keep the cheeseball refrigerated until shortly before serving and return leftovers to the refrigerator promptly.
